Radio Campus Tour

Having a campus community radio is of importance  and of course an achievement to an institution. Community radios are established with the motive of bringing a sense of togetherness among different communities,societies and groups. Apart from broadcasting for communities,Multimedia University community radio also serves a function of training.

This Saturday, the 26^th Nov 2016, a big talented footballer, John Mark Makwatta, will join the MMU radio Sports show for the first ever live interview this season since winning the KPL (Kenyan Premier League) Golden Boot- a trophy known and presented to the top scorer of the league. He is currently a player for Ulinzi stars which finished third on the lad behind former champions Gor Mahia ahead with eight points.

The striker maestro has been in superb form this season netting a total of 24 goals in 37 matches. He has registered 16 KPL goals in 28 matches, six Gotv matches he scored six goals and two goals in three top 8 matches.

You don’t wanna miss the campus sports show, Zinga La Spoti live from 1-4pm not only this Saturday but every Saturday of the week with the sports crew; JayB, Makali John and Francis Odee. Let’s meet there!

End of semester party

The semester is almost coming to a close therefore, it is a great moment to celebrate it. After the tough two weeks of reading for exams,the perfect way to end this semester in style is to party.

To all students who have sacrificed and put in a lot of effort this is a chance to reward yourself. In case you have never been to a party before grab this opportunity and purpose to attend. The good news is there is no stressing about next week assignment or random tests from lecturers just fun like never before.

This year end of semester bash will be happening in Rongai at Diaspora Lounge, Siron place Building 2nd floor. All students are invited to a night full of blast. On the decks we will have some of the hottest deejays to ensure cool music till dawn and not forgetting a dope hype master.

Don’t be selfish and tag along with some friends to enjoy this awesome event together before parting ways for the Christmas holiday.

Leadership and Innovation Conference

Are you a youth leader aged between 18 and 35 and interested in innovations?

The East African Youth Parliament has partnered with several ministries to host the second East African Youth Conference.

The conference to be held on the 19^th and 20^th December at the Bomas of Kenya themed Celebrating Youth Leadership and Innovation will include 2500 youth leaders from East African countries with local and international development agendas.

There will be several on-conference activities including: themed workshops and round tables, plenary sessions as well as exhibition for companies, service providers and participants to display their innovations.

Delegates will visit organizations and other groups leading in youth innovations.

A Gala night and a Special Awards dinner will be held to recognize and award youth innovations in various sectors.

Sponsors and partners will also be appreciated.

Delegates are required to cater for their meals, accommodation and transportation costs.

Celebrating a successful year

Knowing it is the end of the year, a meeting was held last weekend at the Kasarani Grounds comprising various campus presidents and finally it was unanimously agreed upon that an annual all campus politicians party ought to be held.
A politician from the University of Eldoret explained that after a hectic year experienced by the campus politicians, they needed a break.

The main aim of this party will be to celebrate a successful year. No one suggested otherwise when the Moi university president suggested a fee of kshs 5000 per head. It was a clear indication of how well off these campus leaders are, in terms of money.

The party is to be held at the Ole Sereni Hotel on the 24th December 2016, to allow leaders enjoy themselves as they anticipate Christmas Day on the next day.

There will be buffet, amusements, refreshments, leisure activities and one day accomodation.

As much as other campus students would like to attend, it will strictly be a political party and therefore school political identification cards will be produced at the entrance. Therefore,all campus political leaders in Kenya are invited!

Kindly describe yourself 

I am Mary Juliet Murugi, hockey player for Team Ravens, the Multimedia University ladies’ hockey team.

When did you start playing hockey?

I started playing hockey in my first year second semester  January 2014.

What inspired you to join hockey?

I like hockey. It’s interesting and a game of class. Plus, I thought I had too much time in campus in first year so I didn’t want to be idle.

What are some of the challenges you encounter as a lady player?

I remember the first time I went to the field, some guys exclaimed: why a lady! So, I told them that I wanted to join because it’s interesting.

 What are some of the achievements you have as a sports lady?

Last year I was voted as best player of the team.

What advice can you give to ladies in sports?

You should join at least one sporting activity because it helps keep fit, spend time well and can help in your C.V

 

 

It’s easy starting and owning a business. You can do it too.

Who is Albert Ogamba

I am a third-year student of commerce at Multimedia University of Kenya and a business person too.

What business do you do in school?

Currently,I run an M-Pesa shop.

From the profits you get, how does it help you as a student and as a business person?

The profits are there, I can’t deny. Though the risks involved in the business can outweigh the profits.

Did you begin business here in university, in secondary school or back in primary?

I began business immediately after I cleared form four. My parents work in a Kericho tea factory, so I used to obtain tea at a lower price then sell back at home it at a profit.

With the current unsteady education and employment status in Kenya, would you advise your fellow students to start businesses?

According to what I’ve seen so far, the Kenyan economy hasn’t been favorable  so I’d advice my fellow students, not to depend on employment only. Go an extra mile. Take a risk. And earn an extra coin.

The media (especially music and the movies) over the recent past, have portrayed drug use as a prestigious  lifestyle . This has seen the younger generation follow their lifestyle.

In an interview with Sam,(not his real name), he explains why, how, where and to whom he sales drugs to. From the way he talks, it very clear that the business is well established with a ready market. Despite the numerous risks, he says he has his way out whenever he his caught up with the authorities.

Why do you sell drugs despite their numerous effects?

For me selling drugs is just as any other business. It has money and that is all that matters to me.

have you ever been caught by the police?

(Laughing) I have my inside people, i pay tax to them in return for protection. Everyone doing this business mus have the cover.

How much do you make, say per week?

There is money my friend, on a bad day i make up to 5000.

For us to realize vision 2030, lets all stand and say no to drugs. At the end of the day the benefits can never surpass the effects!

A good deal of the 21^st century campus girls gives no hoot about peddling flesh for a ride in a V8, an off-campus fully furnished apartment and drinks in a club complimented by gift hampers from an older man.

While it’s not bad to be sexually active beyond the age of 18,  it’s morally wrong, even suicidal to have sex with multiple person and worse of when it’s without a condom.

Worldwide, 7.3 million of births are by girls between the ages of 15 to 19. And since the campus girl and boy are aware of abortion, getting rid of it isn’t difficult. We just flash it out of our system. Get better, healthy, and move on to the next relationship.

Psychology says that the trauma of abortion seats upon the conscience of a lady all her life. It never leaves. Even in marriage. While the man who fathered the aborted foetus roams free unencumbered, the lady, just when an iota of happiness sips into her brain, remembers that did she did.

Sex, is psychologically a stress reliever. However, when carelessly indulged in, it is a stress giver. Are you mentally healthy? Let not a sponsor mess you up psychologically.
